The James R. Zimmerman Marine Corps Reserve Training Center, constructed by the Nutmeg Companies, Inc., earned a LEED Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED ratings for New Construction encourage producing buildings that are designed to be efficient and have a lower impact on their environment.

Nutmeg Companies, Inc. was the general contractor on the the James R. Zimmerman Marine Corps Reserve Training Center. The project included a fire protection system with a fire pump and an HVAC system including a geothermal system with 26 drilled wells.  The Training Center was also designed to comply with UFC Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) guidlines for a primary gathering facility. The entire project was administered by the US Navy (NAVFAC NORTHDIV PWD Maine).

The building called for a USGBC LEED Silver Certification.  However, through Nutmeg Companies, Inc.’s efforts, and at no extra cost to the government, the building was able to achieve LEED Gold Certification in February 2013.
